Zen

I've just started doing yoga again.

I had wanted to join a class, I always think exercise classes are a good way to keep fit and meet new people, but after ringing round and finding out to go to the classes at Total Fitness you have to pay something ridiculous like £30+, I decided to do it my own way. My Mum is a role model to me and ever since I can remember she's done yoga. I remember as a small child climbing on her back when she was in the Cat pose and thinking I wanted her to play with me, not do this funny body bendy thing. I look back now and laugh because my Mum taught me the importance of 'me' time. I think whether you are in a couple, a parent, or single, it's so important to make time for yourself, even if it's just five minutes a day, with no interruptions or stress.

I didn't really want to buy a DVD, I wanted a yoga book but didn't want to keep turning the pages. My perfect Mum found the solution for me:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/15-Minute-Gentle-Yoga-Anywhere-15-minute/dp/1405326573/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244963102&sr=1-1
Fab book that comes with a DVD and although it has postures on each page, has a fold out bit at the end of each section that covers all the poses.

I have been doing yoga every day for a week and cant believe the difference. Not just physically but mentally, just lying down every night when I get in and listening to my breath is so calming and relaxing. Although to people that are not practiced in yoga it looks like you're just sitting/standing there, yoga is one of the oldest forms of exercise and tones you all over.

I have done yoga on and off for the past 4 years, went to a class for a couple of months last year called Body Balance, which was a mix of yoga, pilates, and tai chi. I haven't found a class like that up here so am doing my own cost free exercise. It's the best way to beat the credit crunch. There are three reasons for this. 1. It's free. 2. It clears your mind of any worry. 3. It's fun.

So if you've never tried yoga and think it's 'just standing there', or haven't done it for a while and want to get back into it, check out the book. Get some zen, people, it'll change your life...Om!
